We attend site, take levels and moisture readings, and price at no charge.

We prepare new substrates and existing floors to the condition the specified finish needs: sound, clean, dry enough and flat enough. That covers concrete slabs, existing screeds, anhydrite, timber, asphalt and tiled floors, each prepared in the way its material requires.

What we deliver

  • Substrate identification and moisture testing
  • Screed soundness checks and local repairs
  • Primers and smoothing compounds compatible with substrate and finish
  • Levelling to the surface regularity the covering needs
  • A record of what was found and what was done

Where an existing screed is beyond preparing, we will tell you. Laying new screeds is not work we carry out, so that advice is impartial.

Frequently asked questions

It is set by the finish. BS 8204 defines surface regularity classes, and thin resilient coverings and modular tiles need the tightest, so we prepare to the class the covering requires.

Often, which saves a great deal of removal work. The tiles have to be proved sound and well bonded first, then keyed, primed and smoothed to bridge the joints.

Where levels are beyond what a smoothing compound can correct, or the screed has debonded across large areas. We will tell you plainly, as laying new screed is not work we carry out.
