Before a new finish goes down, anything it cannot bond to has to come off. We remove laitance, old adhesives, failed coatings and contamination mechanically, by diamond grinding, shot blasting or planing, and leave a sound, profiled surface ready for the next stage.

What we deliver

  • Laitance removal on new slabs and screeds
  • Concrete grinding to level joints and open up the surface
  • Removal of old adhesive residues after a covering is lifted
  • Removal of failed resin, epoxy and paint coatings
  • Dust extraction suited to occupied buildings

Where an old adhesive may contain asbestos, a survey comes first, and any removal is carried out by a suitably qualified specialist before our work begins.

Frequently asked questions

No. Both use diamond tooling, but grinding for preparation stops once the surface is right for what follows, whereas polishing continues through finer grits to produce a finished floor.

Work stops until it is established either way. If asbestos is confirmed, its removal is a separate specialist operation, and our preparation follows once the area has been cleared.

Usually because they were bonded to laitance or contamination rather than sound concrete, or because moisture from below pushed them off. We establish which before the replacement goes on.
